Man convicted of the 1977 Monterey County killing of 4 family members denied parole again SALINAS – The California Board of Parole, represented by two parole commissioners, denied parole for Harold Bicknell, who was convicted of the 1977 murders of four family members in Seaside.Despite multiple confessions, in varying environments, including detailed testimony under oath at juvenile proceedings against his co-participant, Bicknell claims to be innocent. Point Reyes’ Greenpicker Trail keeps the promise of its name Whether your eye naturally seeks out the deep green of a conifer or the fresh brightness of new growth or something in between, Greenpicker Trail has the green for you. Thanks to abundant fog enveloping Inverness Ridge, which Greenpicker traverses, the trail also takes users through a fantastical world of forest and fern that lifts the spirits as the path climbs upward to the aptly named Firtop. To enjoy the seven-mile Greenpicker/Stewart Loop, start at the Five Brooks Trailhead just off Highway 1. Take the wide and generously proportioned Stewart Trail upward about 1.2 miles. Along the way, watch for wildlife, including what seemed to be an entire village of chipmunks searching for snacks in the trailside grasses. When you reach the fork offering a choice between Stewart and Greenpicker, take Greenpicker to the right, a single track clearly marking a road less traveled. The Greenpicker hike features a fantastical world of forest and fern. Photo by Emily WillinghamAlong the path ...

Review: ‘Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS’ gives singular access to the world’s biggest band LOS ANGELES (AP) — “Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS” by Myeongseok Kang and BTS (Flatiron Books)Like most releases from the world’s biggest band, the debut memoir from the seven-member K-pop group BTS, “Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS”, was a smashing success from moment the public learned of an anonymous, forthcoming text. But unlike most BTS drops, the 544-page book became a bestseller before the subject matter was even revealed, thanks in large part to Taylor Swift fans.In May, a listing for “4C Untitled Flatiron Nonfiction Summer 2023” inspired online speculation from Swift’s cohort: an author and title was going to be revealed on June 13, and they believed the popstar was leaving them numerical easter eggs, or hints, as she often does in her rollout campaigns. Thirteen is Swift’s favorite number. The page count, 544, when added individually, equals 13, like in the equation 5 + 4 + 4 = 13.But there was a more obvious connection to be made. June 13, 2013 was the da...
