No release for Hawaii woman accused of using dead baby’s ID

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:55:57 GMT

HONOLULU (AP) — A woman accused with her husband of living in Hawaii under the stolen identities of dead babies will remain behind bars pending their trial, a U.S. magistrate judge ruled Wednesday. According to prosecutors, Walter Glenn Primrose and Gwynn Darle Morrison are the real names of the couple who have been fraudulently living for decades under the stolen identities of Bobby Edward Fort and Julie Lyn Montague. Prosecutors say Primrose spent more than 20 years in the Coast Guard as Bobby Fort, where he obtained secret-level security clearance. After retiring in 2016, he used the secret clearance for a job as a U.S. defense contractor, prosecutors said. There is no indication in court documents why the couple in 1987 assumed the identities of deceased children, who would have been more than a decade younger than them. Previous rulings have kept them detained. At a hearing Wednesday asking a judge to release the wife, she identified herself as “Lyn M...

US sues Tennessee over ban on care for transgender youth

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:55:57 GMT

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Justice Department on Wednesday filed a lawsuit challenging Tennessee’s new law banning transgender youth from receiving gender-affirming care, one of the several laws the state’s GOP-dominated Statehouse enacted this year targeting LGBTQ+ people. The federal government is seeking to invalidate the statute because “no person should be denied access to necessary medical care just because of their transgender status,” Assistant U.S. Attorney General Kristen Clarke said in a statement. The DOJ said the law violates the Constitution’s equal protection clause by discriminating on the basis of both sex and transgender status.“The right to consider your health and medically-approved treatment options with your family and doctors is a right that everyone should have, including transgender children, who are especially vulnerable to serious risks of depression, anxiety and suicide,” Clarke added. The federal lawsuit comes after Clarke s...

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:55:57 GMT
